Srinagar: Actors Creative Theatre in coordination with J&K Handicapped Association organises ‘World White Cane Safety Day’ at Tagore Hall, Srinagar here on saturday.
The function was attended by The commissioner of Physically Handicapped Commission, M. Iqbal Lone, Mushtaaque Ali Ahmad Khan, Chairman of ACT, Ab. Rashid Bhat and Abrar Bhat of J&K Handicapped Association besides the other dignataries were also present at the moment.
To recognise the importance of white canes for blind people, who want to safely travel and maintain their independence.
The aim of the day was to recognise the active participation of visually impaired people in society and celebrate their achievements. The white cane is a long cane that helps someone with ‘Low Vision’ or ‘No Vision’ to navigate and avoid obstacles on the road. It is their visual aid that helps identify dents, platform edges, steps, uneven surfaces.
The one day Seminar on White Cane Safety was organised by ‘Actors’ Creative Theatre’ and ‘J&K Handicapped Association’,
Mushtaaque Ali Ahmad Khan, Chairman of ACT, gave the welcome address and heartily welcomed all the gathering. The commissioner of Physically Handicapped Commission, M. Iqbal Lone, also spoke on the occasion.
During the program,Smart phones were distributed to about 25 visually impaired children.
The dice incharge formalities were done by Farah Zaidie.
